SEVIS Implemented January 30, 2003

As mandated by recent legislation, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the INS) [the "Service"] has implemented an electronic system to collect, maintain, and track information relative to international students and scholars. The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an Internet-based system that provides users with access to accurate and current information on nonimmigrant foreign students, exchange visitors, and their dependents. SEVIS will allow schools and exchange programs to transmit electronic information and event notifications, via the Internet, to the Service and the Department of State (DOS).
