Acknowledgment of Support

Our boilerplates and sample text for selected application sections may be used as a starting point for your applications, and should be modified to meet sponsor's requirements and to align with your proposed research plan.

I. This boilerplate addresses sponsors' requirements for Acknowledgment of Support (see NIH example).

All deliverables - publications, posters, abstracts, presentations, press releases, reports, other public communication - that have benefited directly or indirectly, fully or partially, from external support/resources (through salary, equipment, supplies, travel, etc.) must appropriately acknowledge the sources of support and comply with the sponsor's requirements.
If more than one source supported the described deliverable(s), all should be specified. Support mechanisms to acknowledge include research, training, infrastructure, and instrumentation awards.

Research and Training Support
Sample acknowledgments:

NIH
“Research reported in this publication was supported by the ___________ of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number ___________. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health."

NSF
"This material is based in part upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant #s
____________ and ____________. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation."

NYSTEM
"This work was supported by the Empire State Stem Cell Fund through NYSDOH Contract #
____________. Opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Empire State Stem Cell Fund, the NYSDOH, or the State of NY."

Private Foundations (e.g. American Cancer Society, Burroughs Wellcome)
"Supported by [insert name of grant and #] from the [insert full name of Foundation].”

Other
As specifically requested by sponsor.

Instrumentation and Infrastructure Support
Sample acknowledgments:

To acknowledge the benefits of sponsor-funded instrumentation/facility, and where reservation systems allow, integrate a statement in the specific instrument's/facility's reservation system, such as: “Purchase of or funding for the ____________ was supported by an award from ____________ to the University [award #].

Cost-sharing support [if applicable] was generously provided by The Rockefeller University and by ____________ . All Users will notify the instrument/facility manager of published papers that acknowledge use of the instrument. Deliverables arising from the use of the instrument/facility will acknowledge all relevant sources of support."

NIH
“Research reported in this publication was supported by the ___________ of the National Institutes of Health under Award Number ___________. The content is solely the responsibility of the authors and does not necessarily represent the official views of the National Institutes of Health."

NYSTEM
“Support for this project was provided by the Empire State Stem Cell Fund through NYSDOH, Contract # ____________. Opinions expressed here are solely those of the author and do not necessarily reflect those of the Empire State Stem Cell Fund, the NYSDOH, or the State of NY.”

Other
“Instrumentation/infrastructure (e.g. RU Resource Center name) used for this work was supported by ____________ [insert award # and/or sponsor name].” Or as specifically requested by sponsor.

II. This boilerplate addresses the acknowledgment of internal University support. As applicable, RU strongly encourages investigators to cite institutional support of their research in resulting deliverables.

Important Many sponsors, for example NIH, require institution’s communication offices to include the grant/award number(s) in press releases on the project and research accomplishments supported by the specific grant/award.

Internal University Support
"Support for this project was provided by [insert name of RU employee] from the [insert name of RU resource/department]."
