Illustrating Timeline/Milestones in Applications

Our boilerplates and sample text for selected application sections may be used as a starting point for your applications, and should be modified to meet sponsor's requirements and to align with your proposed research plan.

Timelines are sometimes required by sponsors to provide an overview of the project plan and to indicate important study milestones or provide a schedule of deliverables. Reviewers appreciate having a timeline that shows how and when the proposed Specific Aims will be accomplished, including any overlap of experiments and alternative paths.  The following examples of timelines are for NIH R01-type projects and large collaborative program projects.

Special thanks to Drs. Jean Laurent Casanova and Ralph Steinman for sharing their grant timelines, which have been modified to be more generalizable for other studies.
