Administrative Supplements NOT-OD-09-056 (excerpts from the NIH notice)
This program provides an opportunity for investigators to request administrative supplements for the purpose of accelerating the tempo of scientific research on active grants. Support may be requested for up to 2 years for active NIH Research Grants and Research Program and Center Grants (Ps), as well as Career Development Awards (Ks), Institutional Training Grants (Ts), Cooperative Agreements (Us) and Educational Development Awards. Individual NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) have more detailed eligibility information on their websites. Potential applicants should review the instructions for Revision Applications issued by their funding IC before responding to this Notice. Some ICs will consider administrative supplements only in target areas identified on their Websites.
To be eligible, the parent grant must be active and the research/scientific activities proposed in the supplement must be accomplished within the current competitive segment. The proposed supplement MUST be within the general scope of the peer-reviewed activities and aims approved within the parent grant, including projects on a no-cost extension; while supplemental funds may be awarded to grants during a no-cost extension, the period of support cannot extend beyond the award period for the additional time that was granted. Note that while NIH recommends that a no-cost extension already be in place before an administrative supplement request is submitted, this is not a requirement for all administrative supplement requests. There are no limits to the number of administrative supplement requests that may be submitted by an institution or Project Director/Principal Investigator although individual ICs may limit eligibility in accordance with the policies listed on their website.
Applications may be submitted throughout FY2009 and FY2010. However, note that some NIH ICs may have specific deadlines for submission of administrative supplements as listed on their own websites. Refer to the Notice for detailed instructions on preparing administrative supplement requests, i.e. cover letter, PHS 398 Form pages, proposal components.
Competitive Revision Applications NOT-OD-09-058 (excerpts from the NIH notice)
This is an opportunity for investigators with active NIH-supported research project grants to submit revision applications (formerly termed competitive supplements) to support a significant expansion of the scope or research protocol of approved and funded projects.
This announcement is for revision applications to active NIH Research Grants, including, but not limited to, R01, R03, R15, R21, R25, R33, R34, R37, R21/R33, R41, R42, R43, R44, SC1, SC2, SC3 grants, and Program Project grants, Center grants, Cooperative Agreements, Training Grants, and Institutional Career Development Awards. These are 2-year awards and probably are most appropriate at the post-doctoral level. (Note: Most Ks and Ts are eligible for administrative supplements (also above). Individual Institutes and Centers (ICs) have more detailed eligibility information on their websites. Fellowships (Fs) and Conference Grants (R13s) will not be considered for revisions.
Potential applicants should review the instructions for Revision Applications issued by their funding IC (See NIH Institute & Center (IC) Web Sites) before responding to this Notice. Some ICs will consider Revision Applications only in target areas identified on their websites.
To be eligible, the parent grant must be active at the time the revision application is submitted, and the research proposed in the revision must be accomplished within the current competitive segment. That is, the period of support requested for the revision cannot exceed the current project period end date of the parent grant, including projects on a no-cost extension. Also, a no-cost extension must be in place before the revision application is submitted.

The deadline for receipt of these revision applications is April 21, 2009. Resubmissions will only be accepted if this notice is reissued.
Funding decisions and awards will be issued on or prior to September 30, 2009 for applications submitted in response to this notice, and on or prior to September 30, 2010 for applications submitted in response to any reissuance of this notice.
Administrative Supplements Providing Summer Research Experiences for Students and Science Educators NOT-OD-09-060 (excerpts from the NIH notice)
The purpose of this opportunity is for investigators with active NIH Research Grants to request administrative supplements in order to promote job creation, economic development, and accelerating the pace and achievement of scientific research. These supplements will also encourage students to seriously pursue research careers in the health related sciences, as well as provide elementary, middle school, and high school teachers, community college faculty, and faculty from non-research intensive institutions with short term research experiences in NIH-funded laboratories.
Support may be requested for up to 2 years for active NIH Research Grants, Research Program and Center Grants (Ps), and Cooperative Agreements (Us). Individual NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) have more detailed eligibility information on their websites.
