Signing off on Applications, Reports & Other Submissions
with Human/Research Animals/Custom Antibodies/RCR/Other

To obtain an institutional signature on sponsored research applications/reports/other submissions that cite animal/human subjects (includes custom antibodies) protocols, the following must be established:

The PI on the submission is on the cited protocol(s); the cited protocol(s) is applicable to the specific submission and was approved by the IACUC or IRB; and a copy of the signed University IRB or IACUC approval letter confirming these details is provided to OSPA.

If these requirements are met, the protocol number(s) and approval date(s) may be specified in the submission and the associated Routing Form. If not, the protocols' status shall be listed in the submission and the Routing Form as 'pending'. Importantly, using awarded funds to support human/animal subjects (includes custom antibodies) work is allowable only when all required approvals are in place.

Upon learning of noncompliance, the OSPA Sr. Manager, Administrative Post-Award, will promptly notify Finance, the principal investigator and copy the OSPA Director, as well as the head of the specific compliance area.  Awarded funds may be placed on hold until compliance is in place.

For more information on human subjects protocols go to IRB; for more information on animal subjects (and custom antibodies) protocols go to IACUC.

NOTE: Although a sponsor agency may not request information on the review status of animal or human subjects research, you must still submit the appropriate protocol to the IACUC or the IRB.
